During the past few weeks, our client service and marketing departments teamed up to interview those who interact with Hourly Rounding on a daily basis. Despite managing a high census, these nurses and nurse assistants stepped away from their units and into the spotlight to talk candidly about what they love about Hourly Rounding, Nobl’s industry leading hourly rounding platform.
During the interviews, we sat down with nurses of all experience levels from fresh out of nursing school to seasoned nurses that have been providing patient care for many decades. Their interviews told the story of how Hourly Rounding changed how they cared for patients — for the better. Not to mention, their stories just plain inspired us!
Hourly Rounding enables those with a moment of free time to step in and help others who need it.
Throughout our interviews, the nurses consistently remarked about how Hourly Rounding created a renewed sense of teamwork on their units. Nurses mentioned that when they’re stuck in a patient’s room for an extended period of time, they can rest assured that someone else will round on their patients. And when they did have a spare moment, all they had to do was look up at the rounding maps and instantly discover where they could help other nurses out. Hourly Rounding empowered all floor staff to work as a team to care for patients, creating a culture of trust and comradery.
“For me, it’s when I get busy is when I love it the most. When I have a patient that is not doing well, I use to have to let other people know that I was stuck in a room and needed help with my other patients. Now, if I’ve been stuck in a room and my other patients haven’t been rounded on, another nurse or nurse assistant will know when to go check on my patients. This brings peace of mind to me that someone else is checking on them.” -Stacey Sven, RN
Hourly Rounding changed the culture of how and when nurses care for patients.
During the interviews, we were thrilled to hear about the various ways Hourly Rounding has made them more efficient as a nurse. After all, that’s the reason why hourly rounding was created. We discovered that when nurses were documenting on paper it was at the bottom of their to-do list and was just another thing to do. Hourly Rounding turned that notion upside down by making it the task to end all other tasks. The nurses felt that because Hourly Rounding made hourly rounding a priority, it allowed them to proactively care for their patients—decreasing call lights and allowing them to ‘not run with their heads cut off’ as one nurse put it.
“Hourly Rounding really guides your day. Rounding is not the extra task, it’s the reason to go in their room and accomplish everything you need to do for that patient at the time.” - Becca Burner, RN
Hourly Rounding gives all care providers insight into when patients need to be checked on and if they’re a fall risk.
Nurses love Hourly Rounding because it gives them greater awareness. One nurse mentioned how the rounding maps show your census at-a-glance and show which patients are out of their rooms. Another told us how it’s common to not know the patient’s fall risk status if their not your own and Hourly Rounding gives you that data during the round — even reminding you to turn on their bed alarm after you reposition them. Lastly, we were excited to hear how the rounding maps served as a communication board, alerting staff as to which nurses were busy in other rooms and which patients’ could use an hourly round.
“Just the other day, I was helping another nurse out by rounding on their patient because they were busy in another room. I walked in and that patient was just getting out of bed on their own. After I helped the patient to the restroom, Hourly Rounding showed me they were a high fall risk and helped me to remember to place the bed alarm on this high risk patient. If I hadn’t been rounding and seen the rounding map, I wouldn’t of found this high fall risk patient out their bed about to fall.” - Amber Mason, RN
Although it was hard to just pick the top three reasons why nurse love Hourly Rounding, we have even more reasons coming your way. Stay tuned on our blog and social media channels in the coming weeks for the release of the video interviews featured in this post.
